It was the breadth of opportunity that first attracted me to Nationwide. And I can now say from personal experience that if you want to get on and you have the ability, Nationwide will give you all the support you need to develop your career.

It’s great to work for an organisation that has a great reputation - I’m genuinely proud to say I work for Nationwide. And building on that reputation - consistently raising the bar on my performance – is one of the biggest challenges. In an industry like ours, you can’t stand still or the competition will soon catch up.

Being a Senior Branch Manager, the most important aspect of my job – and the thing I enjoy most - is spending time with my team. It’s my job to give everyone clear goals; challenge each individual and recognise the things they do well. And, of course, make sure we all have fun and celebrate our successes along the way.

Each individual’s success in the branch is directly linked to everyone else’s. And that goes for me as much as anyone. If I didn’t have a great team around me, I wouldn’t be where I am today, so it’s important that I’m always there for them too and do everything I can to help them develop into top performers.

As far as the rewards are concerned, I think the fact that I’m still here after 21 years speaks volumes. Let’s just say that Nationwide looks after me and my family well. If you’ve got loads of energy and you’re great at getting the best out of people, you’ll find it’s incredibly rewarding on a professional level too. In fact, I can’t think of a single reason not to do it…it’s a fantastic job!
