Graeme Hughes - Group Director HR, Customer Experience and Corporate Affairs

What makes a branch successful is having a fantastic branch manager.  So what do they look like?  Well firstly they really lead and drive the performance through their team. Secondly they have a passion for customer service, and that’s customer service to deliver not just through their team, but through them actually role modelling it for everybody to see. Thirdly, they jealously guard the fantastic reputation Nationwide has in the high street. You need to be somebody who loves exceeding their targets, their goals.  So if you’re that type of person we’d really love to hear from you.

When you take charge of one of our branches, you take responsibility for everything: leading people, driving sales, hitting targets, meeting standards, auditing our performance against FSA regulations – and, of course, keeping customers happy.

That means being out in the banking hall, leading by example most of the time – not shut away in your office. And it also means thinking ahead. Succession planning, analysing branch activity to spot business development opportunities, introducing productive initiatives – all will be down to you.

To cope with ever-changing demands, you’ll need to be flexible, versatile and able to prioritise effectively. Broad shoulders and a quick brain will come in useful too.
