A day in the life of a Sales Consultant
Search All JobsFirst things first, after collecting your headset and belongings from your locker, you’ll choose a desk to sit at for the day. It won’t always be the same desk as we operate what we call a ‘hot desking’ system. So you’ll sit next to different people every day, and get to know almost everyone in the department. You’ll then log in to the computer and make sure you’re ready to take calls before the start of your shift – which will have been allocated a number of weeks in advance and planned right down to lunch and break times.
You’ll take a variety of calls before your first break. And you’ll have spent five minutes before then to check out the communications site. Full of daily updates on key topics, it has all the information you need to give our customers a great service.
On returning from your break, you’ll log back in and be ready to take more calls. Throughout the day you’ll keep an eye on how you’re performing using the reporting function. This allows you to see your target results, and measure how close you are to getting that great quarterly bonus. Needless to say, there’s a healthy air of competition within the department.
In the next half an hour you’ll meet with your manager to review your successes over the previous month. These are known as 1:1 meetings. You’ll get coaching on your communication skills and help with objection handling. When you’re finished, it’s time for your lunch break.
An hour later, you’ll be back at your desk in time for your shift to re-start. Again, you’ll deal with a wide variety of calls, from lengthy mortgage application forms to enquiries which you’ll handle quickly and efficiently.
At the end of your shift, you’ll finish whatever call you’re on before logging off the system and packing up your desk. You’ll make sure everything is as it should be, disposing of any confidential information and leaving your area spick and span. Putting your headset and information back in your locker, you’ll have nothing to take home with you, except pride in a job well done.
If you’re thinking about joining us a Sales Consultant, you’ll need to be focused and sales-orientated and get a buzz from meeting customers’ needs. Assertive and confident, you’ll have a real feel for people so you can quickly establish trust and identify the needs of each customer.
