What we look for

Whatever programme you want to join, you’ll need to have, or expect to gain, a 2:1 degree (or equivalent). For the list of acceptable degree subjects, please see the relevant programme page. You’ll also need 260 UCAS points (not including general studies).

Just as important as your academic achievements, however, will be the softer skills you bring. People who do well at Nationwide are aware of their own strengths and weaknesses, and willing to take constructive criticism as well as offering their own opinions. They work to build relationships with those around them, in order to learn as much as possible and recognise where improvements can be made – all to make sure we deliver the best possible results for our members.

With that in mind, throughout the recruitment process, there are seven key capabilities we’ll be looking for in you. These are:

Self Belief – having the courage, self confidence and resilience to challenge existing ways of working, always doing what you think is right and never letting obstacles stand in your way

Self Awareness understanding and deploying your strengths, knowing and managing your limitations and adapting your approach to suit the needs of different situations and individuals

Driving for Growth – taking the initiative for improving the business and encouraging others to do the same, setting ambitious goals to create a competitive advantage and deliver the best commercial return

Building Collaboration – sharing your knowledge and ideas, inviting the input of others, putting aside your personal motivations to make collective decisions that benefit the wider business

Influencing Others – being able to identify key stakeholders, then adopting the best approach to build a relationship, create a positive impact and secure their sponsorship to make things happen

Breakthrough Thinking – standing back from the detail and seeing how things connect, creating clear and simple solutions to complex issues, and opening up previously unexplored avenues for growth.

Developing Insight – seeking and breaking down information from different sources, identifying cause and effect and appreciating the impact of different courses of action upon the business
