Financial Reporting
Sound financial reporting is crucial to any organisation, especially when that organisation is the UK’s largest building society. By assessing the impact of new products, ensuring the accuracy of financial figures and tracking overall performance, Financial Reporting allows us to evaluate where we stand as a business.
This division executes a variety of financial activities while working across areas such as Group Reporting, Accounting Development, Financial Control and Finance Projects. These activities include evaluating the impact of business model changes, monitoring upgrades to our IT systems and producing monthly figures for the FSA as well as annual and half-yearly performance reports for the public.
Graduates
We take financial reporting extremely seriously. That’s why when you join our Financial Reporting programme we’ll expose you to as many different areas of our business as possible. During your three years on the programme, we’ll also support you to earn a CIMA or ACCA qualification, which will open up doors for you like nothing else. Indeed, many of our most senior people are qualified accountants, up to and including our current CEO!
As a member of the Group Reporting team, you’ll be involved in the end-to-end production process for our annual and half-yearly reports, as well as for information required by the FSA and Bank of England. You’ll also produce the figures used by the Board to assess performance on a monthly basis. During your time with the Accounting Development team, you’ll research the impact of everything from changes to our business model to changes in accounting rules. You’ll then communicate your findings to a non-technical audience in a way in which they can understand.
As part of the Financial Control team, you’ll develop new controls and assess the strength of existing ones. You’ll also look at controls such as reconciliation to ensure our financial figures are correct. On the Finance Projects team, you’ll help us understand changes to our IT systems, while on our operational teams, such as Accounts Payable, you’ll learn the basic principles of running an operational area.
Requirements
To join, you’ll need a 2:1 degree in any discipline and 260 UCAS points (excluding general studies) or the equivalent.
Highly numerate and with excellent communication skills, you’ll need a real attention to detail and a passion for solving problems. You should also be someone who works well with others and who can deliver projects within tight timescales.
