PRIDE
What does it stand for?
We’re different from most other financial services companies. Our mutual status gives us a unique set of values – honesty, openness and fairness – and allows us to put our customers’ needs first. Everyone at Nationwide has the chance to bring that difference to life in their own way. And we encourage them all we can with an approach called PRIDE.
PRIDE is our way of spelling out what we expect of ourselves and each other. It summarises how we treat our customers and our colleagues. It underpins everything we do. And the more we apply it, the better we perform.
PRIDE stands for:
With no shareholders we really can put our customers first:
- Treat customers fairly – ask yourself, ‘Is what I’m doing really benefiting my customers?’
- Be respectful – treat your customers as you like to be treated
- Be proactive – really understand your customers’ needs
We will constantly prove to our customers that we are better and fairer than our competitors:
- Never accept second best – fight for first place
- Be accountable – take personal ownership and responsibility
- Be positive – seek solutions and turn negatives on their head
- Have courage – embrace change with a desire to succeed
Our reputation is precious – we must protect and nurture it:
- Be responsible – safeguard customers’ money and data at all times
- Talk straight – be honest with your customers, never mislead
- Be supportive – challenge and encourage colleagues to improve their performance
- Deliver on your promises – say what you are going to do and then do it
We exist to give our customers more:
- Be efficient – use all the resources you have creatively, conscientiously and effectively
- Be commercial – always look for ways to be more competitive
- Be determined – pursue every opportunity to make your customer better off
We are unique in financial services – and we want our customers to know it:
- Never sit back – always aim for higher levels of performance
- Seize the moment – be extraordinary
- Challenge yourself – ‘What else can I do?’ and ‘How else can I do this?’
Whatever you do, take PRIDE
Wherever you work, this is how you can live up to the PRIDE promise – and enjoy all the job satisfaction, development opportunities, sense of team spirit and financial rewards that go with doing just that.
