Training & development
Learn from a Champion
Not only are we an accredited 'Investor in People' for the fourth time running. We’re also one of just 36 companies (and the first in the financial services sector) to be awarded 'Investor in People Champion'. That means we’re recognised as an organisation that has a best practice approach to training – one that really invests in its people and helps them learn and grow.
We spend more per person on training than any of our competitors. So whichever area of Nationwide you join, you’ll be encouraged to develop. And, believe us, you will want to make the most of the many opportunities here.
A few training facts and figures
- Over the last two years we’ve doubled the amount of training we give our people.
- In 2007/08 we’ll deliver over 60,000 internal training days (an average of three course-based training days per person).
- We spend over £500 per person on training each year (a total investment of over £10 million)
We help you develop with -
- a full induction – for all new recruits
- a career development plan – everyone has their own, tailored to their specific needs and ambitions
- a regular Performance Review – to review your progress and set new goals
- all sorts of ways to learn – from e-learning to job-shadowing to coaching to trainer-led courses
- support for professional development – after all, it benefits us as well as you. Each year we sponsor a number of employees to gain NVQs, degrees, and management and financial services qualifications
- training in fraud prevention – everyone at Nationwide benefits from this. Well-trained, vigilant employees are one of the first lines of defence against financial crime and, along with the latest technology and the most rigorous procedures, are key to our fraud prevention strategy
- an award-winning intranet site – gives you access to the internal jobs on offer, interview tips and what we call the Development Curve. This is an online career planner – a tool that allows you to map your development across the business.
