Training & development

Learn from a Champion

We’re proud of our great reputation for training and development. It’s a reputation that’s earned us an 'Investor in People' accreditation for the fourth time running. And which has made us one of just 36 companies (and the first in the financial services sector) to be awarded 'Investor in People Champion'. That means we’re recognised as an organisation with a best practice approach to training – one that really invests in all its people and helps them learn and grow.

We spend more per person on training than any of our competitors. So whichever area of Nationwide you join, you’ll be encouraged to develop. In fact, completing your core training will be a key part of your role. And that’s true whatever your job title. So you could well find yourself taking part in essential training courses, many of which run for a full day in one of our training centres across the UK. That might involve travelling from wherever you’re based and, if the course lasts more than a day, staying away from home overnight. It’s all part of our investment in you, to help you gain the skills and knowledge you need to do the very best job possible.

A few training facts and figures
  • Over the last two years we’ve doubled the amount of training we give our people.
  • In 2007/08 we’ll deliver over 60,000 internal training days (an average of three course-based training days per person).
  • We spend over £500 per person on training each year (a total investment of over £10 million).
