Why did you choose to join your business area?
I chose retail for three main reasons. The first one is that not every day is the same. So customers come in to Nationwide and every day has a different challenge. The second reason is I love being around people. I have been voted Employee of the year and I think that is really important. And, it’s important to get into the hearts and minds of people. Not only our staff, but also our customers to make sure they walk out with better products. The third one is I like a job where I can measure my own success. And I measure the success through my team and through our sales points. So that’s three reasons why I chose my area of the business.

Can you describe what your area of the business does?
In my area of the business, I am a District Sales Manager and what that incorporates is running a small district, but being in charge of being there to support eight Branch Managers. The Branch Managers have to make sure they make their staff feel empowered and important and want to come into work in the morning. In turn, they will actually get our customers to want to do more business with us, which then gives us the profit we’re looking for. My work environment is absolutely fantastic, hence me being voted Employee of the year. We work hard, we make a lot of money but we have a lot of fun. And I think that’s the important thing about working for Nationwide, it’s about having fun, but about having our contribution as well.

What would you say to someone who wanted to apply for your job?
If someone wanted to apply for my job, I would say ‘just do it’, it’s fun, it’s challenging and every day’s different and you will be measured by your contribution, just do it.

Has working at Nationwide turned out as you expected, and if not, how has it differed?
Working for Nationwide has actually turned out much, much better than I expected. I came in to Nationwide, actually went through the whole job roles, from Customer Adviser to Branch Manager, to Financial Consultant and now District Sales Manager so I have actually had a fantastic time, and the biggest part of this is winning the accolade of Employee of the Year, so its turned out fantastic!
