Chris Walsh
Contact Centre – Academy Team Support

You can read the transcript of the video below:

Why did you choose to join your business area?
I chose to join the contact centre because I have worked in contact centres before. I love the friendly, chatty environment that you get. I'm quite a talkative person myself, so it seemed the ideal job for me.

Can you describe what your area of the business does?
My job role in the contact centre is the support for the academy team. So we coach, train, get them through their six-month probation period before they get transferred onto a team.

What do you love most about your job?
What I love most about my job is the people. I love working with people. The friendly atmosphere. It’s a great place to go to work each day.

What support and training have you had since joining?
Since joining Nationwide I have had plenty of support and training. First six months is constant support which is great to learn the job role. And after that you can choose any jobs, any courses you want to go on. And you've got the development curve, you can pick and choose courses at random.

What is your working environment like?
The working environment at Nationwide is great. Very friendly, lots of support, a lot of help from everybody. Everyone knows each other and a very friendly atmosphere.

What would you say to someone who wanted to apply for your job?
If someone wanted to apply for my job I would say they’d have to be very people focused, very friendly and very determined.

Has working at Nationwide turned out as you expected, and if not, how has it differed?
Working at Nationwide has differed slightly from what I expected. I have worked in contact centres before and the targets are very hard to achieve. Working at Nationwide, very achievable targets, great people to work with.

My PRIDE item
My PRIDE item’s my wedding ring, I’ve chosen that because you instil the same PRIDE values in marriage as you would at work.
