Lee Stephens
Branch Manager
I’ve worked here for 15 years. I chose Nationwide as an employer because of the fast pace of change - both of the organisation itself and the wider industry. The training and support you get are great but at the same time you’re given plenty of freedom to do the job your own way.
The main challenges are keeping yourself and your team up to date with the changes going on in the industry - making sure the service we offer always exceeds our customers’ expectations. But, of course, all those things are highlights too. Exceeding targets, being recognised as a top performer, making customers better off and seeing your people grow and develop: it all makes for an incredibly rewarding job.
My success as a Branch Manager stems from having clear goals and the drive to achieve them. The role’s about linking service to sales and following through with this philosophy. I set clear objectives for my team as a whole and each individual within it. But just as I have the freedom to do things my way, I let them do things their way too.
The earning potential here is massive. There’s a good basic salary with an uncapped bonus that really rewards above target performance. The more you do, the more you get – it’s as simple as that.
If you’re thinking about joining Nationwide as a Branch Manager, I’d say go for it! It’s very challenging and very rewarding - both financially and emotionally. The chance to use your personality as well as your skills to grow the business is fantastic. You’ll get as much support and guidance as you need, but ultimately you’re accountable for everything that happens in your branch.
