Sam Filmer
Branch Manager
You can read the transcript of the video below:
Why did you choose to join your business area?
Well I work in a branch and I’ve always worked in branches. Where I lived, retail was all I knew for Nationwide, so I started working in retail but I loved it. I’ve always loved it, and I'm still doing the same thing 10 years later.
Can you describe what your area of the business does?
Well I work in the branch network, so we deal with all the customers coming into the Nationwide branches. We work together in a team and we match Nationwide’s products and services to what our members need.
How long have you been in your current role?
I started working at Nationwide 10 years ago as a Customer Representative, I then worked as a manager for the last five years, but my current role as Branch Manager I’ve done for the last year and a half.
What do you love most about your job?
What I love most about my job is I work in a branch, I love the people I work with. Every team I've worked with have been fantastic. I love dealing with the customers. I love working to targets and I love the success when we achieve our targets, and the rewards and recognition we get from doing that.
Has working at Nationwide turned out as you expected, and if not, how has it differed?
My career has definitely differed to how I thought. When I applied for a job as a Customer Representative 10 years ago, for me, that was all it was – a job. Now it’s my career. I’ve worked my way through for 10 years from Customer Representative to Branch Manager, and I never expected that when I first applied. So yes, definitely differed, but good.
My PRIDE item
The mirror for me represents PRIDE because every time I look at it, it reminds me of the Nationwide values, being the best you can be, and demonstrating “perfect 10” behaviour.
