Recovering debt over the phone is no easy task. In fact, it takes real talent. Our customers are often troubled by their financial situation by the time they call us or receive a call, so you need to balance compassion with a pragmatism that calms the situation and reaches a swift conclusion.

And because this work is so vital to us, you’ll be set realistic targets which we’ll fully expect you to meet. However you’ll only do this after completing our excellent training programme and with our ongoing support. What’s more, as we like to be available when our customers need us the most you’ll find our mix shift patterns suit most people.

That’s us in a nutshell, but below are some questions we’re often asked that might interest you.

You’ll find Nationwide a refreshing place to work. Ours is a culture that communicates openly and freely; that encourages input and autonomy; and that welcomes ideas and progression.

We’ll need you to be flexible, but it’s something a lot of our people enjoy as it fits around their busy lives. Our mix of shift patterns does include some weekend work and our lines are open between 8.00am and 8.00pm. Each shift lasts eight hours for which you’ll get an hour’s break, but we try and make your shifts mutually agreeable.

Training – Our training programme typically lasts four weeks, learning alongside our team of Collectors from week two – so that you can get plenty of practice in before you ‘go it alone’. But if that feels too soon, we’ll work with you to overcome the areas you feel need development until you’re ready. In reality though, you’ll never know just how good you are until you’re taking ‘live’ calls (both inbound and outbound) as only experience will give you the skills you need to perform at your best.

Development – At Nationwide we’re keen to see our people develop. We invest heavily in training and like nothing more than to see that impact on your career progression. Lending Control has plenty of scope for development and progression and we’ll work with you to fulfil your potential.

Yes – in fact we’re building a team of part-time Collections Advisors right now and giving them just as much initial training, and ongoing coaching and support as we give our full-time Advisors. You’ll work a minimum 16-hour week between 3pm and 9pm Monday to Thursday plus alternate Saturdays between 9am and 1pm. Work a Saturday and you can have one day off in the week.

There’s a lot to look forward to. Thanks to continuous training, you can go on to become a recognised specialist in a specific product area, generate even better results and enjoy an even healthier bonus – up to £600 pro rata dependent on the hours you work. You’ll be part of a team where, as every positive result generates a huge buzz, the atmosphere is lively and motivated. And, of course, you’ll be making a big difference to your own finances as well as those of our customers, and enjoying all the same benefits as our full-time staff.
