Morgan - IT
My area of the business is responsible for setting IT strategy, which involves getting clarity about where we're going with our IT, where we're going to be investing our money and what are the things that we need to be doing in the coming years.
I love mostly the variety. The sort of things I can get involved with on a day-to-day basis vary. I could be speaking to heads of department explaining what we're going to be doing on the IT side, I could be working with some of the technicians to define where the technology is going for a particular project.
Charlie - Change Management Division
The area of the business I work in is change management and what we like to think we are is we are enablers to the business, to make changes, whether in processes, new systems, having to launch new products. We'll potentially be the gel and where businesses have an idea and they need it seeing through to fruition, we will drive it along, get the links in with other areas of the business, which may be IT, or it just could be some of the branch networks. The area we look to do is make sure the idea can come to fruition and go live. What I love most about my job is the opportunity to work with various areas of the business. The one good thing with Change Management is that you're not just left with one area to work with and see the same faces every day. So, I like the fact I can develop my own team, speak to different people from different areas and also actually gain quite a lot of knowledge about how Nationwide runs as an organisation. I enjoy working with the retail branch network because they're the customer-facing area. Its quite interesting - you can get some real characters out in the branches.
The Group Transformation teams consisting of IT and Change experts are leading and delivering Nationwide’s transformation agenda. We scope, plan and govern through Transformation Planning. We manage the programme lifecycle through our people in Transformation Delivery’s Practice Areas, and we support and maintain our platforms and applications through Technology Services. We are investing in technology and organizational change to enable best value for members, through providing the capability and bedrock for market leading products and exceptional customer satisfaction. This means there are many opportunities to get involved with cutting edge technology programmes.
Technology Services
Based mainly in sites around Swindon, the teams provide Infrastructure, IT Operations and Application Services support. Our key roles in this area focus on System Programmers, z/Os experts, Netweaver/Basis specialists to enable agility in our platforms and applications.
Transformation Delivery
Our Transformation Delivery team was recently formed bringing together our Project Management communities from IT and Change Management to manage the implementation of the expanding change agenda for Nationwide. Blending internal know-how with externally recruited expertise, our team today manages over 120 in-flight projects including significant core system replacements, new product development, distribution expansion and regulatory change programmes.
Using a tailored version of Prince2 methodology, our Change Management Framework facilitates a highly professional approach to project delivery that strikes the right balance between control and agility. Through our communities of practice across a range of roles in the project lifecycle (inc. Project Management, PMO, Analysis, Design, Build and Test), we engender a culture of challenge and continuous improvement in the ways we work so you'll find us receptive to new ideas and fresh thinking.
