EmmaGreen-profile.jpgI started with Nationwide back in 2002, having qualified with ACCA a couple of years earlier. Before joining I worked in one of the Big Four Accountancy firms. I’d spent eight years auditing and realised that, while I liked working with large organisations, I wanted the chance to gain more strategic and business experience.

Coming from a professional services background, I found the culture at Nationwide to be far more open and relaxed. It was also good to see first-hand the value accountants can bring to the business and how they’re appreciated by colleagues across the organisation.

It’s interesting how many people you meet across the business who’ve started off in Nationwide as accountants. But perhaps not that surprising when you realise the breadth of opportunity. If you want to do Financial Reporting, you can. If you want to be a finance business partner, you can. The longest time I’ve stayed in one job has been three years. It’s a very progressive organisation and I’ve gained lots of experience.

Moving to Commercial was certainly a good step for me. I learned a lot about the way we operate as a business. And together with the strong relationships I’ve developed across the organisation, that experience enabled me to move into my current role. And there’s no reason why it has to stop here. I really feel like I could do lots of different types of roles at Nationwide and I’m not pigeonholed.
