Finance Business Partner – Central Functions Cost Management

This role will enhance a small team of 5 that manages a £220m+ budget and deals directly with ED’s across Central Functions, this new vacancy will play a key role in shaping the Central Functions Finance Business Partnering team to:

• Be a trusted business partner that delivers commercial insight to support Nationwide Central Functions areas - PCC&C, Group Risk, Group Finance, Group Compliance and Internal Audit
• Identify principle cost drivers to provide robust cost insight in terms of current performance (monthly reporting) and future performance (forecasting and planning)
• Establish process efficiency and assurance to provide financial control and insight to support strategic decisions.
• Contribute to creating and embedding a High Performance ‘No Surprises’ culture across the Group Cost Management team

Working alongside a newly established business partner team and the areas they support, you’ll help them build an intimate understanding of the business cost bases’ to enable efficiencies to be identified and delivered alongside the management of Risks and Opportunities.

• A Risk Manager in our head offices in Swindon.
• £41,535 - £53,073 a year on a permanent contract.

It’s an exciting time to be involved Risk Oversight. Lending strategy for our retail products directly impacts our members and is key in influencing the Society’s financial performance as well as its reputation as a financial services provider. At the point where lending strategy is approved, committee members are looking to Group Risk Oversight (Retail Lending) to provide assurance and insight to support the decision making process.


This is where you’ll come in. You will engage with 1st line Retail Credit Risk teams within group risk as strategy proposals are developed with the aim of giving the committee confidence that proposals are subject to effective check and challenge. As a Risk Manager in Group Risk Oversight (Retail Lending), you will provide independent proactive review and advice to the 1st line Retail Credit Risk teams responsible for the risk management of Mortgages, Current Accounts, Credit Cards and Personal Loans. 

In addition you will ensure we have the right risk processes in place to identify and mitigate developing risks to the portfolio. You will also be involved in reviewing the strength of controls across the 1st line and undertake horizon scanning activities in order to gauge the society’s position against competitor/peer performance and to ensure that regulatory standards are met. In performing this role you will increase your knowledge and credibility by building strong working partnerships throughout Group Risk and across the society.
