Compliance and legal careers at Nationwide
As a Financial Services organisation there are many legal and regulatory requirements that we must comply with. But we're different from some financial organisations in the way we work. Our compliance and legal teams
Group Compliance is made up of Compliance Oversight, Financial Crime, Compliance Advice, Secretariat and Legal.
In turn there are 6 separate legal teams that make up Group Legal at Nationwide; Retail, Commercial Lending, Corporate & Treasury, Business & Employment, Dispute Resolution, and Legal Risk. Each of these teams are led by a General Counsel, the senior lawyer who reports directly to the Group General Counsel. The lawyers in each of the teams generally report directly into a senior lawyer.
What are compliance and legal teams do
We work very closely with the whole business and with regulators to help Nationwide achieve its corporate goals, and the work we do has more impact than you might think. Whether it's the small print in our advertising, the design and pricing of our products, or the processes in our branches and contact centres.
Having a voice on the Board, and being involved in the customers' end-to-end journey gives us a unique opportunity to make sure we as an organisation do the right thing.
Who we're looking for
Whether you currently work in a legal or compliance role or you're looking to move into this area you'll find it a challenge.
You need to use your judgement and interpret rules and regulations. Conflicting priorities and deadlines need to be managed, and you'll need to be confident and able to stand by your views.
