Delivering valuable insight to support decision making at the most senior levels.
Specifically our role is to inform and influence, from a financial perspective, the development and implementation of our strategy, including merger and acquisition activity.

The department is made up of three teams (detailed below). For a list of current vacancies please scroll to the bottom of the page.
Who we’re looking for
Our teams work closely with many business areas, therefore we are looking for someone who is able to win tryst and build relationships across Nationwide. In addition to first rate analytical and communication skills we want someone who is comfortable operating with a work agenda that's fluid and fast-paced, and with a keen awareness of and interest in the developments in financial services.
Our work can be wide-ranging and varied, however our key role is to manage the production of the Group Corporate Plan, including the financial refresh process and to coordinate strategic planning debates with the executive boards. We monitor competitor strategies to identify any resulting opportunities or threats to Nationwide, and lead the analysis of key High Street competitors, engaging with key business areas and external parties to gain further competitor insight.
We also lead the financial modelling for potential acquisition opportunities and divestments, project manage strategic projects working with the relevant product areas, legal, risk and audit, as well as external advisers.
Economic and Market Analysis
We analyse developments in the economy and Nationwide’s markets in order to inform and advise key decision makers. We produce forecasts that underpin our corporate planning and stress testing activities, and present these to internal and external stakeholders.
We compile and publish Nationwide’s House Price Index (HPI) which, as the second largest mortgage lender in the UK, receives regular media focus. We also support executive communication events and activities relating to the economy and the UK mortgage and savings markets.
In addition to having the ability to convey complex ideas to non-specialists, we look for someone with a flair for economics.
Other responsibilities within the team include the joint management of the rating agency relationship with Treasury, and supporting the preparation of the Interim and Annual Report and external results presentations.
Group Finance Strategy & Operations
We manage the development of the strategy for Group Finance at Nationwide, providing internal and external insights to help achieve Group Finance’s vision: To be the exemplar Finance function in UK retail banking.
Our work involves the development of plans across our Financial Performance & Reporting, Treasury, and Financial Controls & Information Management Divisions; defining action and investment that will improve the way Group Finance works. We also play a key role in communicating the Group Finance strategy, which helps us and our colleagues from across Nationwide to deliver our plans and create value for our members.
