What's special about Nationwide?

We want our 15 million members to enjoy the same personal, tailored experience online as they do in our network of branches. So for us, technology doesn’t mean designing something to replace the human touch, it’s simply a way to enhance and extend it.

This certainly resonates with Sonja Jefferson and Will Wellesley-Davies, who have just joined our Service and Experience Design leadership team. Find out why.

Why Nationwide?

Sonja has been a leader in the world of content for many years. She founded Bristol's content strategy firm Valuable Content and is co-author of the award-winning book, Valuable Content Marketing - how to make quality content the key to success and joins Nationwide to head up the fast-growing content design discipline.

"Nationwide has a long history as a values-led business; the most human business wins today and content design in a transformative practice in the drive towards that goal. It's great to see the Society adopting content design across the business and we have some incredible talent in our team. I'm excited to see how far we can take it.”

Will has joined from the strategic UX design agency, Nomensa, where he was Principal User Experience designer and will be scaling up Nationwide’s UI design capability to meet the modern ‘Fintech’ challenges of service design to better serve the needs of both customers and colleagues.

“Nationwide believe in putting people first; in honesty and integrity - applying these values to the design of future innovative financial services, which touch all aspects of people’s lives across society is a really exciting opportunity.”

If you'd like to join them, take a look at our opportunities or register your interest and we'll be in touch.

Digital and Design Skills Solve Shelter's Problems

This year, one of our team's ambitions is to look at how to use digital and design skills to help good causes and support Nationwide's vision of making sure everyone has a place fit to call home.

So when Milly from the Shelter team and Candi, a Digital Content Manager here, got chatting after a visit and discussed the idea of a hackathon with their Digital Fundraising team, it felt like a perfect match; to help them step away from the day-to-day and spend time hacking a time-consuming problem.

The Shelter team had a few real life problems they asked for help with - from improving user journeys for online fundraising to making content more relevant and findable to help their community fundraisers. Each of them with tangible impact and value. Candi explains more.

An amazing day

"The day itself was an amazing one. Our job is all about solving problems so to get people from right across Shelter in one room to collaborate with our designers, bringing fresh perspectives to a real problem, was incredibly valuable and enjoyable! The aim of the day was: to give Shelter new ideas, to deliver something the team could take away and use and to provide the team with three things they could do differently immediately when they went back to the office. From helping the team understand their users, how they interact with their website and any pain points to producing new content and wireframes, lots of great work and learnings came out of the day and I was so happy to see that the Shelter teams enjoyed it as much as we did.

Fresh perspectives

"It’s incredible what you can achieve in 6 hours when you look at things from a different perspective.

"I believe that the power of design thinking and technology give us a new lens to consider how we solve some of the big problems society faces today and this is really just the beginning of exciting new ways of collaborating with Shelter to make positive change a reality.”
