Anne joined Nationwide as Chief Internal Auditor in 2007 from PricewaterhouseCoopers, where she was a director in the Banking and Capital Markets practice, providing external audit and advisory services principally to clients in the retail banking and mortgage lending sector.

Her clients included large banks as well as building societies, and earlier in her career she audited a wide range of organisations both in the financial services sector and other industries.

Group Internal Audit's purpose is to provide rigorous and constructive independent challenge to management, driving improvement in governance, risk management and control. In doing so, Group Internal Audit contributes to the achievement of Nationwide's strategic objective of being a safe and sustainable business, which is on the side of its members.

Group Internal Audit maintains an up to date understanding of business performance and risks, as well as the external environment, to develop a risk based plan of audits. This plan covers all areas of the business and is approved by the Audit Committee.
