The mainframe z/OS team provide production support for our core banking system, protecting service is the main focus of this team. z/OS with SAP Banking Services on DB2 and USS is a significant part of the core platform for Nationwide’s current account system and as a Lead in our Hosting Services team, you’ll provide direction and support for the infrastructure that underpins our core banking platform. Working with the other support teams that provide the core bank service, you will be ensuring that our systems are always stable, available, up to date and running as effectively and efficiently as possible.  This role comes at an interesting time where we are increasing the scale of the platform and implementing new technology such a Linux on z.

As a Lead in Hosting Service you’ll also be a subject matter expert, advising other teams and providing technical guidance in layman’s terms to Nationwide management.

Who we're looking for

As a mainframe Systems Programmer you will have several years’ experience in supporting IBM z Systems hardware and z/OS infrastructure in a DB2 data sharing environment, ideally this will include experience in the financial services industry. You will have a good knowledge of z/OS and Parallel Sysplex. You will have excellent general z/OS skills including TSO/ISPF, JCL and SMP/E skills and some experience of performance & capacity analysis. Any knowledge of SAP, GDPS, Netview, Tivoli Systems Automation or IBM Tivoli Monitoring would be advantageous. You must be a team player with excellent communication skills and with a proven track record of problem solving and service improvement.

As a Lead in the team you may have to line manage, so any experience in line management will be beneficial.

What you'll be doing

Proactively it will be your job to support the z Systems infrastructure across the whole landscape of environments from development to production. You will do this by planning and implementing upgrades, by monitoring system performance and tuning, and by carrying out a wide range of essential maintenance tasks. After a qualifying period, you will be expected to take part in an on-call support rota of approximately one week in four. As a team we collaborate and work closely with our partners and the business to ensure releases, maintenance and upgrades are delivered on time, whilst protecting service and the customer experience.

Reactively you will be part of a team responsible for resolving complex IT incidents on the z Systems infrastructure, minimising the impact to critical business and customer facing services. You will be involved in service restoration activities during major incidents, supporting the management team as required. You will also be involved in root cause investigations and development (and implementation) of corrective actions to prevent repeat occurrences.

The extras you'll get

If you put a lot in, it’s only fair you should get a lot out. So if you help us do the right thing for our customers, we’ll help further your career at Nationwide. As well as your salary, there’s life assurance, a pension and a recognition and rewards scheme. We think it’s a great place to work, and we’re not afraid of giving you praise when you’ve done well.
