It’s an exciting time as we evolve to a new future that sees us accelerate delivery of value to our Members and engage colleagues around new ways of working, and an exciting opportunity has arisen for a Senior Procurement Manager to join our Procurement team to drive forward the Strategic sourcing agenda for the Operations procurement category.
The successful applicant will work closely with the Head of Operations and Propositions sourcing and SRM to lead the innovative procurement and supply chain strategies that give Nationwide a competitive advantage, improve the member experience and align with cost and risk appetite expectations.
The Procurement team is an extremely important component of Nationwide and have the responsibility to ensure our members’ money is spent wisely. We are passionate about building a sustainable and efficient supply chain and managing risk for the Society.
We are at the heart of enabling Nationwide Building Society to build society nationwide, supporting the business to build new and innovative products for our members and delivering against our responsible business commitments and ambitions to be carbon neutral for our entire supply chain by 2030
We have 60+ professionals managing the procurement lifecycle through Sourcing, Supplier Relationship Management and 3rd Party Risk, and when you join the team you’ll get the opportunity to interact with all areas of the business: one day you are involved in supporting the design a new ways of working, the next you are running analysis for a new product launch, and the next you are working on an executive summary of 3rd party performance for the board.

What you’ll be doing
We’re looking for an outstanding individual to lead the development and delivery of “joined-up” procurement and supply chain strategies across multiple spend categories, geographies and business areas within Nationwide, with a total annual spend of c£250m
You will have an aptitude for working with agile teams to deliver using sprint methodology and engaging and influencing through to executive-level stakeholders in procurement decisions. Driving personal development motivated by curiosity and thirst for learning, you will be positively impacting business performance by effectively working with colleagues, suppliers and others who are not in the line of their command.
Driving improvements through people, thereby transforming and aligning the organisation in a new and challenging direction
As a minimum, you’ll have:
• Category & supply market knowledge in Business Operations procurement (including business process outsourcing & business process re-engineering), Customer communications, credit and collections and Marketing.
• Contract law and regulatory understanding relevant to Financial Services, in particular knowledge of contracting with System integrators, Software or/and Platform suppliers
• Experience of leading and managing strategic and business critical supplier relationships and contracts
• Leadership experience with the ability to coach others, identify and act on team development needs
• Commercial modelling and cost management experience
• Entrepreneurial experience; you will have successfully led a team building something new
• Project management experience including driving a project to completion, dealing with challenges that arise and managing a driver group of stakeholders to stay on track • An understanding of negotiating tactics and various negotiator styles to secure favourable terms and reduce cost
It would also be nice if you have
• A degree with a relevant professional qualification (e.g.CIPS or equivalent)
• Regulated services / industry experience
• Worked for a BPO organisation or within a regulate industry sector
