Process Mapping / Risk Manager - 6 Month Fixed Term Contract

  • Location(s): UK Wide
  • Salary: up to £61,000
  • Contract Type: Fixed Term Contract
  • Ref: R00AOR00727
  • Closing Date: 19 December 2021
  • We're happy to consider flexible working approaches for this role

We are looking for a Process Mapping / Risk Manager on 6 Month Fixed Term Contract, Paying up to £61,000 per annum (dependant on experience)

A project is underway within Nationwide to map the Society’s processes, and associated risks and controls, integrating the output with other risk information across the Society, in order to deliver a sustainable and enduring ‘process excellence’ capability. As a result we are looking for someone on a 6 month fixed term contract to lead Second Line Oversight engagement in the development, and subsequent application of process, risk and control mapping techniques.

If you have proven experience of process mapping, awareness of risk management frameworks, and are looking for a role where you can influence the way forward, this is the opportunity for you.

Due to COVID-19 the way we are operating as an organisation is changing. As we try to navigate the varying and unprecedented landscape we are continuing to work on how and where our teams work during this time. As a result, we are flexible on location.

What you’ll be doing

As soon as you join the Oversight team, you’ll be picking up responsibility for Second Line engagement with the project, contributing to the design principles and approach to end to end process mapping. Through independent support and challenge, working closely with the First Line of Defence (Business Areas/Chief Controls Office), you will support control identification/optimisation in delivery of the project.  You will ensure process mapping outputs align to the Nationwide Risk Management Framework and the project’s documented approach. This activity forms part of a wider Process and Controls Improvement Programme, so you will be contributing to this significant Society-wide priority.

About you

As the project is already underway, we need someone who can hit the ground running. We’re looking for someone who understands and can apply process mapping principles and practices. As part of the second line of defence, you will present constructive challenge well, because you understand the importance of being a critical friend. You will have a willingness to be pragmatic, to test and learn whilst considering the likely variety of different views, with the ultimate ‘how can we make this work’ approach.

As a minimum requirement you’ll need to have:

  • A detailed working knowledge of process mapping principles and practices and an ability to apply these across a range of business processes, risks and controls;
  • Ability to shape and influence outcomes based on ambiguous requirements;
  • Ability to act objectively and maintain independence;
  • Excellent communication skills, written and verbal to provide meaningful but sensitive challenge;
  • Analytical skills to understand and interpret business knowledge in a range of business areas;
  • Ability to comprehend and assimilate information rapidly;

It would be nice if you also had:

  • Proven experience in risk management framework practice;
  • General awareness of regulatory requirements in the Financial Services Industry;
  • Experience of working in a Three Lines of Defence model;
  • Relevant professional qualification in respect of process mapping, review work or risk management (e.g. Institute of Internal Audit IIA, Institute of Risk Management IRM), or equivalent.

The extras you’ll get

There are all sorts of employee benefits available at Nationwide, including:

  • A personal pension – if you put in 7% of your salary, we’ll top up by a further 16%
  • Up to 2 days of paid volunteering a year
  • Life assurance worth 8x your salary
  • A great selection of additional benefits through our salary sacrifice scheme
  • Access to an annual performance related bonus
  • Access to training to help you develop and progress your career
  • 25 days holiday, pro rata

Why work at Nationwide

We’re a building society founded by ordinary people, our members, who came together to help each other get the most from their money, buy homes and save for their futures. For over 130 years, we’ve supported each other and our communities, and we’ve done the right thing for wider society too.

If you come to work here at Nationwide, you’ll be part of that. Part of something a bit different. And something really quite special.

What’s more, we have a strong ethic of care for each other and our members. We recognise that our employees feel most appreciated when their thoughts and values are respected and considered. We’re committed to creating a culture that recognises and truly values our individual differences and identities.
