As a Venture Principal, you’ll be part of the team that identifies investments and strategic partnerships that help deliver improve Nationwide and deliver value for our Members. You’ll be responsible for identifying investment opportunities, delivering investment transactions, and managing our existing portfolio. You’ll be part of our wider Innovation team, working alongside other Venturing team members, and Innovation consultants.

This is a role is in the NBS Ventures team which sits within the Innovation & Partnering team, who use innovation, investments, and partnerships to help find solutions to complex problems within Nationwide. These solutions and partnerships are focused on enhancing employee and member experience, attracting new members and deepening our relationships with members – now and in the future.

What you’ll be doing
You’ll be responsible for sourcing, evaluating, negotiating, structuring, and delivering Venture investments. This will include scanning for opportunities, keeping up to date on trends, evaluating ad hoc investments, writing investment proposals and performing due diligence.
We’ll need you to prepare written investment recommendations and perform investment evaluation (financial analysis, modelling and interpreting both company and financial data) to assess the strength of potential opportunities.
Working collaboratively across the Ventures and Innovation team, you’ll support the Venture Partner/Head of Ventures with management of the venture fund, internal and external communications and strategic partnership/innovation use cases
You’ll take ownership our investment pipeline tracking and fund management reporting - you’ll be a big part in supporting the Venture Partner/Head of Ventures in managing our existing portfolio. You’ll input and coordinate the portfolio performance reporting, observing on the boards of our portfolio companies and actively monitoring our investments. This will include ongoing valuation of portfolio companies, creating regular monitoring reports, and generating ad-hoc reports on specific issues/concerns.
You’ll work with internal stakeholders from across the Society to assess investment opportunities and identify areas of interest for Nationwide for our investment pipeline
We’ll need you to coordinate and deliver internal and external communications that raises the profile of NBS Ventures and shares good news. This will include attending events held within the startup community.
You’ll build relationships and network within the VC and startup community
- Venture Capital, Private Equity, Corporate Finance, or Investment Banking experience
- Excellent communication skills
- Strong commercial acumen, analytical and financial skills - comfortable with VC financial models (valuation models etc.)
- Ability to influence at a senior level of an organisation
- Excellent presentation skills – able to be a spokesperson for NBS Ventures
- Venture investing experience with a track record of deal execution - from sourcing investments, deal analysis, due diligence, reviewing and negotiating all documentation, and supporting transactions to completion
