Following a strategic review of the Economic Crime operating model within the overall risk management structure, we aim to strengthen, realign, and simplify our Economic Crime Risk model.
The Head of Analytics will be accountable for the development, delivery, and management of the Financial Crime Analytics function within the Protect Member Need, with responsibility for maintaining and optimising Nationwide’s economic crime system framework and providing analytical solutions that effectively manage risk and compliance and provide relevant business insight.

What you’ll be doing
- Leading the Society’s Economic Crime system-based monitoring, prevention and detection screening and other analytical activities to ensure compliance with all relevant regulations.
- Provision of expert insight and analytics, ensuring all relevant threats and risk are identified and mitigated.
- Play a leading role in setting future economic crime analytics technology strategy to ensure that our IT systems are set up to deliver industry leading performance in managing economic or financial crime.
- Responsible for building and maintaining a robust governance framework to ensure the relevant team’s activities are appropriately controlled.
- Promotes and monitors continuous professional development within the analytics team, ensuring the team advances its analytical skillsets and subject matter knowledge.
- Representing the Society at external meetings to influence industry initiatives aimed at tackling financial crime.
- Managing existing third-party supplier relationships and selecting future suppliers to ensure the Society maximises value from its partners.
About you
- Strong background in data science and application of advanced analytics to manage Financial Crime risk in a retail banking environment
- Substantial experience within an Economic Crime or Financial Crime function
- Expert knowledge of Financial Crime/Anti-Money regulations
- Highly proficient and experienced in scripting languages, analytical tools, and statistical modelling techniques.
- Passion for working on intricate and advanced analytics problems
- Experience in and ability to lead a specialist team of data analytics and scientists
- Highly credible senior leadership presence with significant experience in conveying and presenting complex and technical information in simplified and easy to understand terms to non-technical senior stakeholders
- Proven strong consultancy, problem solving, negotiation and communication skills at all levels.
- Demonstrable influencing skills across a spectrum of diverse functional areas to Executive’s level.
- Strong ability to take an ambiguous brief and transform into credible vision and delivery plan.
