As a Manager in the Controls Testing Team you will be a member of a team of skilled control testers, testing the design and operational effectiveness of controls across the Society, with a particular focus on Data Privacy and Data Governance.
You will be responsible for ensuring the testing plan is executed to the highest standards, as well as working with the business to ensure remediation activities are successfully completed.

To support this, our Control Testing Team is currently looking for ambitious, energetic and experienced controls Manager with a background in Data Privacy and Data Governance Management, ideally in the Financial Services sector.
As part of the Chief Controls Office, the Controls Testing Team is critical to ensuring the design and operational effectiveness of controls are regularly assessed, ensuring they are robust enough to safely and reliably deliver the services our members expect.
What you’ll be doing
You’ll have a solid understanding of control frameworks, testing methodologies and remediation planning, supported by strong planning and co-ordination skills to:
- Test controls against standards that drive good risk and control management practices consistently across the Society
- Plan and deliver a control testing programme across the business, reporting on the design and operating effectiveness of controls and advising the business on strengthening the control environment to risk appetite and control objectives
- Identify opportunities for control automation as well as opportunities for sustainable automated monitoring and testing of controls
- Provide constructive challenge to ensure the right outcomes for our members.
About you
As a minimum requirement you’ll have:
- A degree or relevant qualifications (or equivalent) and operational experience
- A good working knowledge of GDPR and BCBS239 requirements and control frameworks
- Experience of applied testing of Data Privacy and Data Governance controls across multiple business processes and technology environments
- Experience in risk management, risk identification, controls assessment and management
- Strong Audit, Controls, Risk or Compliance background with an in-depth understanding of testing or audit methodology and risk & control analysis
- Excellent relationship management skills
- Strong communication skills and ability to relate to and influence colleagues at all levels.
It's not essential but it would be good if you had:
- Experience in undertaking third party testing across a range of risk domains
- Well-developed coaching and mentoring skills and experience in line/team management and performance management
- Ability to utilise a breadth of knowledge from across the wider technology and digital professions, strengthening the effective delivery of service
