This role will support the ongoing development of the Senior Managers & Certification Regime (SMCR) and other relevant people regulation within Nationwide; developing tools and frameworks and driving continuous improvement activities, which will ensure the regimes are effective in both safeguarding the society and enabling our future vision.

What you’ll be doing

You will work as part of a team to interpret, design and implement changes in response to people regulation, as well as further evolving our approach to existing regulation; balancing the need to safeguard our society and member outcomes, whilst enabling our future vision.

You will build mechanisms to ensure oversight and adherence to SMCR and across the society as well as developing tools, frameworks and approaches that support the further embedding of the regimes to support effective decision making and governance.

As well as develop initiatives and communications to proactively drive and embed SMCR within the organisation. You will be part of a team responsible for the production of associated reporting and MI in relation to people regulation.

Finally, you will act as a trusted advisor and provide expert advice and guidance to relevant SMCR populations, and in doing so apply a sound understanding of regulatory expectations and best practise across the industry alongside society vision and goals in order to drive balanced and pragmatic outcomes.

About you

As a minimum you will have: 

  • Strong understanding of SMCR and people regulation and its application or experience of, and genuine interest for, interpreting and implementing regulation within Financial Services
  • Degree in a business-related discipline, and a relevant professional qualification or sufficient breadth and depth of relevant practical experience.
  • Confident in developing balanced and pragmatic solutions; taking ownership for delivery and enjoys working collaboratively, and at pace, to get stuff done.
  • Develops strong working relationships across all levels within the society; builds credibility, trust and confidence in stakeholders.
  • Excellent communication skills, written and verbal; ability to make complex messages simple in order to drive good outcomes and action.

  • Naturally curious, focussed on driving continuous improvement and open to new ideas.
