As a Communications Governance & Controls Manager you’ll be passionate about communications and making sure Nationwide systematically communicates with the right members, at the right time, and in the right way. This means you’ll be equally passionate about how we govern and control our communications to make sure they make sense, they’re clear, don’t mislead, and allow us to achieve good outcomes for our all-important members.

You’ll understand communications inside out – and know the importance of the controls that make sure we do everything we need to when we communicate with any of our 16 million members. You’ll also be passionate about data and understand the importance of ensuring the right data feeds our communications to allow us to meet our regulatory obligations.

What you’ll be doing

Every communication we share with our members is important. Every marketing message, every letter about a savings account, every email about an overdraft, every webpage about a mortgage. And you’ll be making sure those communications reach the right people at the right time and make sense.

You’ll understand in detail our policy which sets the minimum expectations for controlling our communications and help colleagues across the business understand what they’re accountable for, and to put in place the right controls for their part of the communications journey.

You’ll make sure the data that feeds our communications is understood and well controlled. You’ll also work on behalf of our Propositions & Engagement community to ensure the data requirements from teams across our Product, Proposition, Marketing and Communications teams are well understood and prioritised, working closely with our data specialist colleagues.

About you

  • You’ll have experience of monitoring and managing customer and marketing communications – that’s letters, leaflets, adverts, websites, emails and more
  • You’ll have experience of how company policies help manage risk – in particular, making sure communications are accurate, and get distributed when they need to
  • You’ll have done this in a regulated environment, and be used to making sure those communications are well controlled based on your understanding on those regulations
  • Ideally, you’ll have experience of supporting company-wide change, and have helped across multiple parts of a company who own, create and distribute communications to put in place the right controls
  • You’ll have a deep understanding of risk, governance and controls and how they impact communications
  • You’ll understand the importance of ensuring data is well managed within core business areas, and have experience in prioritising competing needs with that data
  • You’ll have the ability to balance risk and efficiency, making proposals and taking pragmatic, balanced decisions, escalating where necessary
  • You’ll understand how data interacts with communications and the importance of data accuracy
  • You’ll be able influence at every level from practitioner to senior leaders
