Technology Development Programme - Accelerators
Are you interested in a career in IT? Do you drive your own learning and are you logical in your thinking? Our 18-month Technology Development Programme (TDP) will give you the training and experience you need to build a successful career in Technology.
We are currently recruiting for specialist roles within: Software Engineering, Cloud Engineering, IT Operations, Data & Analytics and Security & Resilience. Many of these roles include elements of Cloud, Data and Security.
Our Technology Development Programme will have three intakes this year, May 14th, July 2nd and September 3rd 2024. You’ll be asked to select the job role and intake which interests you most when applying. You can find more information about each role by clicking here
Join the TDP and you’ll be making an impact by helping us stay at the forefront of leading-edge technology. You’ll build your commercial knowhow and benefit from both personal development and professional qualifications. How far you go is up to you. In turn, we’ll reward you with flexible working, a competitive salary and a workplace culture to be proud of.
You’ll attend our 2-month induction and academy where you’ll receive upfront training in core IT skills with a focus on specific tech skills and individual projects. You will also receive soft skills training to ensure you are fully business ready by the end of the programme. You will receive an individual learning pathway when you join your teams to ensure you are able to continuously develop your skills.
Following successful completion of the programme, and with the right drive and attitude, there is the opportunity to progress into more senior roles.
At Nationwide, we have adopted a hybrid working model to benefit from collaborating with colleagues in person, as well as providing the flexibility of working from home. There is an expectation for those who join this programme to meet up as a team at least once per month, as set by the business area. For the vast majority this will mean coming to our Swindon office, with a few roles also based out of our London office. As we are a UK-wide Society, we have the advantage of recruiting where the talent is, therefore for individuals that are based outside of these two locations, Nationwide will support travel expenses.
If we receive a high volume of relevant applications, we may close the advert earlier than the advertised date, so please apply as soon as you can.
What you’ll be doing
Whichever role you choose in line with your skills, interests, and potential, we’ll provide you with a foundation in Technology. You could be working on any of the following:
Improving your scripting and coding skills or learning from scratch to continually improve our service and build new applications in software engineering.
Writing code, enhancing user experience, dealing with live incidents and supporting ongoing innovation in Cloud Engineering and IT Operations.
Dealing with security opportunities and challenges presented by Open Banking, Cloud-based services and new technologies.
Working with Data and Analytics, you could be manipulating real time information, providing insights to the business, along with building and managing data sets.
About you
We’re looking for people who want to develop a career in Technology and have the passion and determination to grow and learn. We’re more interested in your ability to shape your own career, have an openness to learning and ability to think logically, than your education or background. You could be a recent graduate or someone considering a career change.
Ideally you will also:
- Demonstrate an interest and passion to develop your own career within technology
- Have the ability to pay attention to detail while understanding the bigger picture
- Be a natural problem solver with a positive, tenacious and solution focused mindset
- Have the ability to build and maintain strong working relationships and have the resilience to adapt to change
Our Customer First behaviours are all about putting customers and members at the heart of how we work together. You can strengthen your application by showing the behaviours that resonate with you, and how you might have already demonstrated these.
- Say it straight - This is about being honest and direct with good intent and saying what needs to be said in the room. It’s also about being clear, precise, and using language that we and, importantly, our customers and members can understand.
- Push for better - This is about aiming high and constantly looking for better in how we work together and serve our customers and members.
- Get it done - This is about prioritising what will have the greatest impact, being decisive and taking accountability for delivering on the end-to-end outcome.

Thinking of joining Nationwide?
Nationwide is the world’s largest building society. With over 15 million customers, we have a relationship with almost a quarter of the UK’s population. We’ve got the scale to compete with the big banks, but we’re not a bank.
As a building society, we’re owned by our members – that’s our customers who have their current account, mortgage or savings with us. It means we can do things differently to deliver our Purpose – Banking – but fairer, more rewarding, and for the good of society.
When you work at Nationwide, you can experience that difference for yourself. You’ll be part of a high-performing, purpose-driven organisation that offers rewarding career experiences and a highly competitive range of benefits to match. You’ll also be joining us at an important time as we seek to reach more and more people in the UK. We want everyone in the UK to know that they don’t have to bank with a bank. They can choose a modern mutual instead.
