In the race against the Fraudster you’ll be at the forefront of developing and delivering best in class IT capabilities to protect our Member’s and their money. This is a truly exciting opportunity to work with some of the latest technologies in our fight against Economic Crime. Your wide-ranging IT skills, enthusiasm for delivering change, and a drive to innovate will be fully put to the test in this fantastic role.

As an IT Solution Architect within Nationwide Building Society you will be a credible individual with widespread IT architecture knowledge and skills, including previous hands-on experience. Skilled in developing strategic end-to-end architectures, deploying enterprise class capabilities, and translating business needs into deliverable solutions.

Nationwide employs a mix of best of breed software and in-house solutions to deliver its Economic Crime defence capability.  We are continuing to invest in our technology and people to keep pace with ever-changing fraud vectors; employing advanced analytics, behavioural biometrics, AI, and Machine Learning techniques to keep us ahead of the Fraudsters. A keen interest in exploring and championing new and innovative technologies would be a great asset.

What you’ll be doing

You will be empowered to engage with a wide variety of stakeholders, vendors, and partners, in addition to key programmes and projects to provide clarity, oversight and direction, and maintain alignment with the target architecture. At the forefront of Nationwide’s technology and services delivery you will proactively identify any emergent technologies, work with the business to understand emergent threats, and think about how we can continually improve our defences. Based on these findings you will assist in providing an architecture to encompass these and ensure that Nationwide remains a secure place for our Member’s money.

You will specifically:

  • Work closely with other architects to understand and deliver the agreed strategic outcomes for the Economic Crime architecture function.
  • Ensure solution architecture integrity throughout the change lifecycle on projects and programmes.
  • Ensure that all solutions are fit for purpose, implementable, complete and align with maturing strategies and standards.
  • Support our digital transformation agenda with technical and business savvy consultancy
  • Support our procurement process to identify and evaluate suppliers and future partners
  • Work closely with our suppliers / partners to support the development of solutions and to help inform the ongoing development of our Economic Crime roadmap

About you

  • Experience designing, developing, and deploying enterprise-scale solutions with exposure to multiple software vendors and technology platforms.
  • Strong understanding of application architecture and systems integration concepts
  • A strong understanding of application architecture best practices, existing and emerging technologies
  • Knowledge of professional software development life-cycle practices: including coding standards, code reviews, DevOps, etc.
  • Be capable of working cross-functionally to collaboratively build cohesive, deliverable, and manageable solutions; proactively identifying and resolving issues independently (a self-starter)
  • A thirst for knowledge, technology, innovation, and continual improvement; both of yourself and the team.
  • Great communications skills (presentations, written, oral) which includes being able to translate complex technical topics into simpler concepts to cater for the target audience at all levels of the organisation

It would be nice if you also have any of the following:

  • A broad understanding of the Fraud and Anti-Money Laundering landscape that most modern organisations must defend against
  • Experience of delivering solutions to the cloud (AWS and/or Azure)
  • A good working knowledge of/interest in new technologies. (e.g. AI/ML, NoSQL, rapid PoC)
  • Proven experience with driving product evaluations and performing RFI / RFP selection as a solution architect
