Our Member’s and their data sit at the heart of everything we do in Nationwide and in Member Data Integrity (part of Data & Analytics) we are working on a number of initiatives to make sure we keep it secure, accessible and up to date in a way that benefits our Members and adds value to our technical and business processes as efficiently as possible – and we need your help to get us there! Sitting within one of our self-managing DevOps ‘pods’ we need the right people to help us to implement, operate and develop data products and services that are key to our Members, Colleagues and the Society and align to all three of our Member Missions.

We have an excellent opportunity for a Business Designer to join our Data & Analytics team within the Business Design Centre of Excellence (CoE).
The role is responsible for designing and delivering business solutions for Change initiatives within the team, to add value and achieve success. The successful candidate will help to shape the prioritisation and sequencing of activity that defines the team roadmap, translating Objective and Key Results (OKR’s) in to targets for Delivery. Business Designers (BD) review the requirements, cost constraints and timescales of the initiatives in order to design a solution to achieve and meet OKR’s.
Nationwide Technology is part of the Resilience & Agility Community and brings together a single, end-to-end technology team to truly integrate the design and build of technology services, to power the society. Under the leadership of the Chief Information Officer (CIO) and the Senior Leadership Team (SLT), Nationwide Technology provides technology change and run services for the Society, supporting Missions and Communities to deliver greater value to our customers and members.
The CoEs (Delivery, Business Design and Product Ownership) were established within Nationwide Technology under the Chief Performance Officer, who is part of the SLT. These CoE’s seek to establish a community of interested stakeholders, developing best practices, and providing best in class Business Design capabilities to deliver on behalf of Missions and Communities.
The role that we’re recruiting for is within the Data & Analytics Community within Nationwide Building Society that provides business intelligence, advanced analytic and data-based solutions, and data perspectives for self-service data inquisition to all areas of the Society.

What you’ll be doing
You’ll be involved in the entire end-to-end change and development process, from identifying and shaping opportunities, through operational and process design to technical design, change and operations – adding value for Members, Colleagues and the Society. You and your team will be key to ensuring the smooth running of data products and services that will have the potential to underpin all of our Member Journeys, Colleague processes and technical applications by providing access to Member data in an accurate, timely, secure and efficient manner.
We operate a DevOps model combining the operational run side of these data products and services as well as the ongoing iterative development of new features and functionality using Agile approaches – so every day will be full of challenges, problem solving and the chance to add real value!
Business Designers within the Member Data Integrity value Stream (part of Data & Analytics) will form a key part of our DevOps ‘pods’ focussing on developing and running a key data product/service. As well as the key Business Analysis and Design activities you’ll also have the opportunity to work across other disciplines depending on need to get the job done and your preferences for what you’d like to get involved in.
As a Business Designer in this role you’ll be working closely with other BD’s, building, managing, and leading in relationships, effectively engaging with the Change team participants. You’ll be accountable for the scoping, planning and approach defining of initiatives, translating business content into relevant deliverables, providing analysis along the way to prompt successful completion of OKRs.
You’ll be using your own initiative in this role and required to work with a pro-active mindset and an aim to identify, escalate and resolve issues/ risks. As a Business Designer, you’ll strive for continuous development in your work, identifying areas for improvement throughout the lifecycle of an initiative.
This Business Design role requires you to collaborate with Change makers and leaders across the other Change teams, as well as within across the Centre of Excellence, to understand and influence interlocks and dependencies.
With relevant experience under your belt, you’ll be using your business analysis or solution knowledge to identify solutions to achieve the best outcome, influencing business resolutions with confidence and innovation to achieve the best results.
We ask that you have:
- Considerable experience of working with a business analysis or solution design role, preferably within financial services.
- Excellent insight in defining business requirements with the ability to analyse and problem-solve to determine solutions.
- Knowledge in business solution/analysis techniques, tools, and methods with a strong understanding of their purpose, fit and relevance when initiating developments.
- An understanding of and the ability to accommodate the needs of multi-disciplined teams, consisting of internal and external resources i.e third party suppliers and contractors.
- A strong understanding of business processes and how technology supports business change.
- The ability to confidently communicate with the ability to influence stakeholders, task manage an analyst team and communicate progress at various levels.
- Experience of leading a team across small- or large-scale initiatives.
- A conceptual, lateral thinking strategy with the ability to translate strategic outcomes in to OKRs.
Ideally you will also have:
- Experience of delivering change through a variety of approaches including agile and waterfall.
- External only: Knowledge of financial services.
- A professional qualification in Business Design, such as ISEB/BCS modules or diploma.
- Education to degree level or equivalent.
- Understanding of data oriented solutions and services.
