Choosing your specialism on the Technology Development Programme
Take a look at the specialist teams you can join on our 18-month, on-the-job training for graduates, recent graduates and career-changers who want to fast-track their way to a career in IT.
Security & Resilience
The Security & Resilience team plays a critical role in ensuring we keep secure our members money and data. We are made up of several specialised teams, each playing a critical role in maintaining our service availability and trusted reputation.
You can expect the role to be varied, challenging, energetic and rewarding, coupled with opportunities to work across the team within our Security Operations Centre, Cloud Security, Technical Vulnerability team or working with our Consultancy team to help secure our products and services.
Data & Analytics
Our data is at the heart of everything we do and is fundamental to the success of our material investment in technology. Data is critical to achieving our strategy, underpinning our digital capability, and allowing us to delight our members through improved experience and more personalised services.
In Data and Analytics our colleagues work to predict future patterns and behaviours using data. We use data to uncover new insights and then tell that story to inform decisions for our members. We transform raw data into something truly meaningful for the business, managing and protecting it at every stage.
Software Engineering
Engineering is where we bring our systems to life! We create new tools that the business can use and work directly with other areas of the business to make sure we are producing the best content for our colleagues.
In engineering you could be working with:
- Front end technologies such as React, JavaScript, HTML and CSS
- Back-end technologies such as Node, C#, DotNet Core, Java
- Testing to make sure our products can withstand even the most intense demand
- CI/CD pipelines to ensure both quality and speed of delivery for our products
- Specialist teams such as Payments, Treasury tech and Open Banking (APIs)
Networks
Networks are what keep our business connected and we need bright and capable new engineers to join our team! Working in networking you’ll be responsible for maintaining our existing networks (software and hardware), running upgrades to improve both speed and bandwidth and making firewall changes to keep our business protected.
Our business couldn’t function if it wasn’t for the networks which we rely upon and as such we need a driven and dedicated team ready to face whatever challenges are thrown at us!
Cloud Engineering
Our growing Cloud Engineering team are responsible for the delivery and operations of Cloud technical solutions alongside providing consultancy and support services as required.
We are responsible for the reliability, availability, security and performance of our cloud platforms and services that underpin Nationwide. You could:

- Work with our consumers in the development and feature teams to ensure the reliability of service.
- Proactively seek opportunities to drive efficiency, automation, and cost reduction by automating manual and repetitive tasks.
- Develop features and codified artefacts for platform improvements leveraging automation and infrastructure as code.
Infrastructure Engineering
