From Apprentice to beyond
We caught up with Bex, Hannah and Ben, 3 of our colleagues from the Nationwide Apprenticeship programme. From forest walks to local DJs, we got to know a little bit more about them and their lives outside of work.
What scheme did you join?
Bex I joined Nationwide’s Emerging Talent Scheme in 2021, doing a Business Admin Apprenticeship. I’d originally come out of university graduating with a business degree, and then eventually worked in the public sector investigating fraud in an Internal Audit environment. I then saw and applied for the Nationwide apprenticeship scheme, because I wanted a change in career direction and to work for NBS as it’s the best employer around!
I realised I needed a strong grounding first to achieve my end goal, and wanted to work my way up, so I could understand how The Society works. Now I work as a Senior Analyst in a Controls & Testing Team within the Mortgages & Financial Wellbeing community. My long term goal is to become a qualified Auditor.
Hannah I joined Nationwide on the Business Administration Apprenticeship scheme.
Ben I am currently enrolled on the Level 3 HR Administrator Apprenticeship, studying for my CIPD, with the option to start the Level 5 course upon completion of the Level 3 course.
What are your interests and hobbies outside of work?
Bex I like watching documentaries. I enjoy going on rambles in forests and completing geocache trails. I also love animals. Finally, when I get the chance, I enjoy spending my time volunteering in the local community completing ad hoc tasks for isolated and elderly residents.
Hannah: Outside of work I’m heavily interested in the UK DnB and Garage scene supporting local DJs. I also spend a lot of my free time and weekends travelling, I’m currently making my way around Europe slowly weekend by weekend – hoping on some interrailing come autumn!
Ben I regularly play football with my friends, I spend time with my dog taking him on long walks and I enjoy going out with my friends.
Last question for now. What couldn’t you do without?
Bex Well that’s a hard one, it’s a toss up between my air fryer (because it does amazing chips!) and my cat. But if I had to pick one, I’d pick my cat! She never ceases to amaze me what antics she gets up to. If the house suddenly goes quiet, I know she’s up to something... so I get a laugh every day and wouldn’t be without her!”
Hannah One thing I couldn’t live without is my friends, it’s really important to me personally to be surrounded by people who inspire and drive me. I’m very grateful for my friends and the relationships there.
Ben I would probably have to say my dog! He helps me get up in the morning and he helps me get some extra steps in every day.
Thank you Bex, Hannah and Ben. We look forward to catching up soon.
