We’re the world’s largest building society

Over 170 years ago, we opened our doors as a building society. Being a mutual and run for the benefit of our members, means that we’re free to reinvest more of our profits to improve the products and services we offer.

Supporting your local communities

Decent housing is a topic close to our heart. In fact, it was central to how and why we began. It’s also the reason why we launched our community grants programme – a chance for local organisations with great housing solutions to apply for grants of up to £50,000. Applications get shortlisted and our members vote to decide who receives funding.

We are proud to be signatories to the Living Wage Foundation, which covers our temporary and contract workers too.
