I’m the Chief Product Owner for the agile ‘Tech Talent’ squad in our People and Culture community, who have the exciting task of recruiting 1,000 new technologists to Nationwide. I feel privileged to lead the squad, which is made up of brilliant professionals from a variety of backgrounds including HR Partnering, Talent Acquisition, Transformation and Marketing. Delivering Nationwide's Technology Strategy
I moved into this role six months ago, and prior to this I was Head of Technology Strategy for Nationwide, leading the team that delivered the Technology Strategy that underpins Nationwide’s Big Investment.
My eclectic career path
It’s fair to say that my career path has been eclectic. My previous jobs have included working in third line IT infrastructure for an investment bank, leading a transformation programme for our contact centres, and leading a strategic review of customer communications management in our Operations. Given that I used to physically rack up and build servers in the infrastructure role, it evidences how far tech has changed in the past two decades!
It was my MSc. in Leadership and Management, which Nationwide sponsored that made me realise that I was really interested in culture and behaviours, and this is what prompted me to move into People and Culture. However I continue to be really interested in how technology is changing our members' and colleagues lives for the better, and how much it is now influencing business models and strategies.
I value how Nationwide supports moves across communities and offers opportunities for continuous learning. Making lateral moves isn’t always the easiest path to take – and moving into our People and Culture community has been no exception, with new HR skills to learn and plenty outside of my comfort zone. However, I can categorically say that Nationwide is a place where career stretch can be found, and with the scale of the technology strategy there are no end of options for technologists who want to be engaged in building cutting edge tech. I have now found my ‘home’ in People and Culture, and I look forward to a future career in this space.Read less
