For the third year running, Nationwide has been included in in The Times Top 50 Employers for Women 2015, which lists the organisations that are leading on workplace gender equality.
The annual list acknowledges and celebrates those employers who actively promote gender equality and diversity in the workplace. Opportunity Now independently selects the top 50 businesses which meet the criteria designed to test their consistent commitment to recruitment, retention and progression of women across their workforce.
The list was announced on the 21st April at the Opportunity Now Excellence in Practice Awards 2015, which we sponsor, held at the Hilton Park Lane and hosted by Sky News presented Dharshini David.
The Awards, which form a part of Business in the Community's Responsible Business Week, recognise public and private sector organisations that are committed to creating inclusive workplaces for women at all levels, and were attended by more than 500 business leaders this year.
We're focussed on attracting and promoting female talent across the organisation and this approach to development has seen high levels of women participating in talent programmes. Women make up almost 65 percent of the overall workforce at Nationwide and more than 50 percent of its managers are women.
We pride ourselves on supporting the needs of our employees through different stages in their life by being flexible and agile, because after all, without them where would we be?
“ “With such a high proportion of our workforce being women it’s very important that we have an inclusive culture and an environment in which everyone has the opportunity to thrive in their careers, irrespective of their gender." ”
“To be named as one of the top 50 employers for the third year running is excellent news and yet more recognition of Nationwide’s status as an exemplar employer.”
Kathryn Nawrockyi, Opportunity Now Director, Business in the Community, said: “Congratulations to all winners and finalists in the Opportunity Now Excellence in Practice Awards. The standard of entries this year was incredibly high once again, but the winners’ commitment to developing inclusive cultures made them stand out.
Opportunity Now has always stressed that gender equality at work will come from fixing the culture, not the women, and our winners and finalists are all making this ethos integral to their success.”
